User Guide

Numbered steps, one practical tip per tool, and troubleshooting — for all 23 tools.

How do these guides work?

This page walks through every LyfPDF tool with numbered steps and one practical tip each. All 23 tools share the same pattern — drop a file, set one or two options, download the result — and everything happens on your device: nothing is uploaded, no account is needed, and your original file is never modified (you always download a new copy).

Jump to a tool

Edit & sign a PDF

  1. Open the editor and drop your PDF.
  2. Pick a tool from the left rail: Pen, Highlight, Box, Arrow, Text, Erase or Sign.
  3. For text: tap the page, type (any language), press Enter. For a signature: type or draw it, then tap to place.
  4. Click Download PDF — your edits are flattened permanently into the file.

💡 Use Erase first to cover old text, then Text to write the replacement — that's how you “change” existing content.

Merge PDFs into one

  1. Open Merge PDF and add two or more files.
  2. Arrange the order with the ↑↓ arrows.
  3. Click Merge & download.
  4. One combined PDF lands in your Downloads.

💡 Order matters — the merged file follows the list top to bottom.

Split a PDF / extract pages

  1. Open Split PDF and drop the file.
  2. Enter the From and To page numbers (the total is shown).
  3. Click Extract & download — or Split every page for a ZIP of single pages.
  4. Use From = To to pull out a single page.

💡 For deleting a few pages instead of extracting, use Delete Pages — it's visual.

Compress a PDF

  1. Open Compress PDF and drop the file.
  2. Choose Strong (smallest), Recommended, or Light (best quality).
  3. Click Compress & download and check the size read-out.
  4. Re-run with a stronger preset if you need it smaller.

💡 Compression rebuilds pages as images, so keep your original for editing.

Rotate pages upright

  1. Open Rotate PDF and drop the sideways file.
  2. Pick 90° right, 180°, or 90° left.
  3. Click Rotate & download — the fix is permanent, not just for viewing.

💡 Rotations add to each page's current angle, so mixed files come out consistent.

Reorder or delete pages

  1. Open Organize — every page loads as a thumbnail.
  2. Move pages with ◂ ▸, remove with ✕.
  3. Click Save & download for the rebuilt PDF.

💡 The label “3 ◂ p7” means: now position 3, originally page 7.

Convert images to PDF

  1. Open JPG to PDF (PNG works too — see PNG to PDF).
  2. Add your images in order; remove any with ✕.
  3. Choose Fit-to-image or A4, then Create PDF & download.

💡 A4 mode is best when the result will be printed.

Convert PDF pages to images

  1. Open PDF to JPG and drop the file.
  2. Pick a quality — High for screens, Max for print.
  3. Click Convert & download; each page arrives as a numbered JPG in one ZIP.

💡 Need just one page as an image? Split it out first.

Convert PDF to Word

  1. Open PDF to Word and drop a text-based PDF.
  2. Choose “Keep line breaks” (forms/letters) or “Flowing paragraphs” (prose).
  3. Click Convert & download (.docx) and edit in Word or Google Docs.

💡 Scanned PDFs have no text layer — run them through OCR first.

Convert Word to PDF

  1. Open Word to PDF and drop your .docx.
  2. Click Convert & save as PDF — a clean print view opens.
  3. In the print dialog choose Save as PDF and save.

💡 If no window opens, allow pop-ups for lyfpdf.com and try again.

Extract all text from a PDF

  1. Open PDF to Text and drop the file.
  2. Click Extract text — everything appears in an editable box.
  3. Copy it, or download the .txt.

💡 If nothing comes out, the PDF is a scan — use OCR instead.

OCR a scan or photo

  1. Open OCR and drop an image or scanned PDF.
  2. Pick the document's language (e.g. Hindi, Arabic, English + Hindi).
  3. Click Scan & extract text — the first run downloads that language's data once.
  4. Edit, copy or download the recognized text.

💡 Sharp, straight-on, well-lit input is the biggest accuracy booster.

Add page numbers

  1. Open Page Numbers and drop the file.
  2. Pick the position (bottom center/left/right) and the starting number.
  3. Click Add numbers & download.

💡 Start at 0 or 2 when a cover page shouldn't count as page 1.

Add a text or logo watermark

  1. Open Add Watermark and drop the file.
  2. Choose text or logo, then set opacity, rotation, size, position and single/tiled layout.
  3. Select all pages or a page range and check the live preview.
  4. Click Apply watermark & download.

💡 15–25% opacity is usually readable; use tiled mode when the mark must remain visible after cropping.

Remove a watermark

  1. Open Remove Watermark and choose the PDF.
  2. Start with Auto clean for a faint mark, Manual smart clean for a selected area, or Permanent area cover for a fixed region.
  3. Adjust strength gradually and compare the before/after preview.
  4. Choose the affected pages and download the cleaned copy.

💡 Cleanup modes rasterize processed pages. Keep the original and use the lowest strength that works.

Redact sensitive content permanently

  1. Open Redact PDF.
  2. Move to each page and drag boxes over names, IDs, signatures or other private information.
  3. Choose current page or all pages when the same fixed field repeats.
  4. Click Redact & download, then reopen the result and verify every page.

💡 Affected pages are rasterized so the covered text is not left underneath a removable shape.

Compare two PDF versions

  1. Open Compare PDF and choose the original as A.
  2. Choose the revised PDF as B.
  3. Use the wipe slider or difference map page by page.
  4. Download the visual report when you need an approval record.

💡 The difference map is visual, not semantic; small alignment changes can create many highlighted pixels.

Edit PDF metadata

  1. Open Metadata Editor and choose a PDF.
  2. Review title, author, subject, keywords, creator, producer and dates.
  3. Change only the fields you need; clear a field to remove its value.
  4. Download the updated copy without rasterizing the pages.

💡 Metadata is only one source of hidden information; comments, attachments and form fields require separate review.

Scan phone images to one PDF

  1. Open Scan to PDF on your phone or computer.
  2. Take photos or choose existing images, then reorder them.
  3. Choose Auto clean, Grayscale, High contrast or Original color.
  4. Select A4 or fit-to-image output and create the PDF.

💡 Hold the camera parallel to the page and avoid shadows for the cleanest scan.

General troubleshooting

  • Nothing happens after selecting a file — check the file type matches the tool (e.g. .docx for Word to PDF, .pdf for PDF tools).
  • “No selectable text found” — your PDF is a scan; use OCR, which reads the image itself.
  • Result seems slow on a huge file — processing uses your device's power; give a 100 MB scan a few extra seconds.
  • Print window blocked (Word to PDF, Print) — allow pop-ups for lyfpdf.com and retry.
  • Password-protected PDF misbehaves — remove the password in your PDF reader first, then run the tool.
Do I need to install anything?

No — every tool runs in your existing browser on desktop, Android and iPhone.

Where do my finished files go?

Straight to your browser's normal Downloads location, like any downloaded file.

Can I use the tools offline?

Once a tool page has loaded, the processing itself runs locally — a dropped connection won't interrupt it.

Why is a tool free with no limits?

Because your device does the computing, our costs stay tiny; light ads cover them. Read more about LyfPDF.
