How do I get a cleaner phone scan?
Place the page on a flat, contrasting surface, avoid shadows, hold the camera parallel to the paper and fill most of the frame. Use Auto clean for ordinary documents, Grayscale for mixed lighting and High contrast for dark text on a plain background.
Which page size should I choose?
A4 with margins creates consistent pages for printing and office use. Fit each image preserves the exact image proportions, which is better for receipts, photos and documents with unusual shapes.
Before you export
- Check page order and remove accidental duplicate photos.
- Use High contrast only when fine gray details are not important.
- Choose Maximum quality for small text or stamped forms.
- Keep the original photos until you have checked the PDF.

Worked example: a four-page application form
You need to email a filled four-page form to an office. Place each page on a dark table near a window, photograph the pages in order and add the four images here. Choose Auto clean, set the page size to A4 so the PDF prints at the normal size, and check the thumbnails for order and rotation. Export, open the PDF once and zoom in on the signature and date fields. If the file is too large for email, run it through Compress PDF before attaching it.
Common scanning mistakes
- Photographing the page at an angle, which makes text lines slope and shrink at one end.
- Using the flash on glossy paper, which leaves a bright spot over the text.
- Leaving fingers or a busy background at the edge of the page.
- Forgetting to check page order before exporting a multi-page document.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use the phone camera directly?
Yes. On supported mobile browsers, the file picker can open the camera. You can also choose existing images from the gallery. Hold the phone directly above the page, fill the frame with the paper and avoid shadows from your hand.
Can I scan multiple pages into one PDF?
Yes. Add several images, reorder them and create a single PDF in that order. Check the order of the thumbnails before export so page three does not end up last.
What does Auto clean do?
It converts the page toward neutral grayscale and increases contrast moderately to improve ordinary document photos. It is a good default for typed letters, receipts and printed forms photographed under room light.
Does High contrast work for every scan?
No. It is best for dark text on a light background. It can remove pale stamps, pencil marks and subtle graphics. Preview the result and switch back to Auto clean or Original color if signatures or stamps fade.
Can I keep the original colors?
Yes. Choose Original color before creating the PDF. Keep colour for photos, colourful certificates and documents where a coloured stamp or seal matters.
Are the photos uploaded?
No. Image enhancement and PDF creation happen on your device. That makes it suitable for ID cards, mark sheets and medical reports you would rather not upload to an unknown server.
Why does my scanned PDF look blurry?
Usually the photo itself was blurred by camera shake or low light. Retake it in daylight, tap the screen to focus on the text and hold the phone still for a moment. A higher export setting cannot add detail that the camera did not capture, so a sharp photo is the real fix.

Phone photos are not scans until you check them
Scan to PDF turns camera pictures into one document: crop, deskew, reorder, then write an A4, Letter or image-sized PDF. Auto clean pushes the page toward grey and raises contrast. That helps ordinary black text on white paper. It can erase pencil, pale stamps and highlights. High contrast is harsher. Original colour keeps the photo as it was.
The camera must see the whole page. A finger in the corner, a curved book, or a yellow lamp will still be in the PDF. Take a second photo rather than trusting a filter to invent missing words. Nothing is uploaded. If the words must become text, OCR is a separate step, and you still have to read the names and figures yourself.
