From tracing letters to tracing sentences

Once children can form letters and words, sentence tracing teaches spacing, capital letters and punctuation. Use short, positive sentences such as “I can do it.” or sentences from a reader, and increase the length as confidence grows.

Choose how many tracing lines follow each model. Keep progression on to add a blank line where children copy the sentence without tracing.

Sentences that always fit

The sentence tracing generator measures each sentence with the chosen letter size and wraps it at a space when it would run past the margin, so no letters are clipped. The page count updates as you type, and extra sentences continue on new pages.

Printing tips

  • Print at Actual size or 100% so the guide lines keep their real height.
  • Use Grayscale or B&W mode to save colour ink; tracing lines stay visible on home printers.
  • Heavier paper (100–120 g/m²) or a sheet protector makes pages reusable with dry-erase markers.
  • For a class set, download the PDF once and print the number of copies you need.

Yes. Pick one to four tracing lines for every model sentence.

What happens if a sentence is too long?

It wraps to the next line at a space, so words and letters are never cut off.

Can I include punctuation?

Yes. Full stops, commas, question marks, exclamation marks, apostrophes, hyphens and common symbols are included in the tracing letters.

Is the sentence tracing worksheet free?
