How the name tracing worksheet is laid out

The first row shows the name in solid letters as a model. The rows below repeat the name in the trace style you choose — dotted, dashed, light grey, hollow outline or start-dot — and the final row keeps only the guide lines and a green starting dot so your child can practise writing the name independently. Turn off progression if you prefer every row to be traced.

Letters keep the proportions children are taught: capitals reach the top line, small letters stop at the dashed midline, and letters such as g, j, p, q and y drop below the baseline. If a long name does not fit, the letter size is reduced automatically so nothing is cut off, and the studio tells you what changed.

Name writing practice for a whole class

Switch on Classroom batch and paste one name per line — up to 60 names. The studio creates one page per student in a single PDF, using the same title, lines and theme for everyone. That makes it quick to prepare name writing practice for the first week of school, a centre activity or a take-home folder.

Accented names such as Zoë, José, Chloé or Łukasz are supported, together with hyphens and apostrophes. Choose As typed, UPPERCASE, lowercase or Title Case to match how your school teaches names.

Printable name tracing tips

Start preschoolers with large letters and the start-dot style, then move to dotted letters and finally to the light grey trace that looks closest to their own handwriting. Laminating a page or placing it in a sheet protector turns it into a reusable dry-erase name practice mat.

Printing tips

  • Print at Actual size or 100% so the guide lines keep their real height.
  • Use Grayscale or B&W mode to save colour ink; tracing lines stay visible on home printers.
  • Heavier paper (100–120 g/m²) or a sheet protector makes pages reusable with dry-erase markers.
  • For a class set, download the PDF once and print the number of copies you need.
