UK bank holidays 2027 start with New Year’s Day on Friday 1 January. Good Friday is 26 March, Easter Monday is 29 March, the Early May bank holiday is 3 May and the Spring bank holiday is 31 May. Christmas Day falls on a Saturday, so the substitute days are Monday 27 December and Tuesday 28 December. England and Wales have 8 bank holidays in 2027, Scotland 9 and Northern Ireland 10.
The dates below come from the GOV.UK bank holiday feed, which is published two years ahead. Because 25 December 2027 is a Saturday and 26 December a Sunday, both Christmas bank holidays move to the following Monday and Tuesday.

Easter, April and the summer bank holiday in 2027
Easter is early in 2027. Good Friday is 26 March, Easter Sunday is 28 March and Easter Monday is 29 March. That leaves April 2027 with no bank holidays at all. The next one after Easter is the Early May bank holiday on Monday 3 May.
The summer bank holiday is Monday 30 August in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and Monday 2 August in Scotland. School summer holidays are a different thing. Each local authority sets its own term dates, and in England they usually run from late July to early September.
Long weekends and leave planning in 2027
Every UK bank holiday in 2027 falls on a Monday or a Friday, so each one gives a long weekend. Two short blocks of leave give the longest breaks:
- Easter: booking Tuesday 30 March to Friday 2 April (4 days of leave) gives ten days off, from Friday 26 March to Sunday 4 April.
- Christmas and New Year: 1 January 2028 is a Saturday, so the New Year bank holiday moves to Monday 3 January 2028. Booking 29, 30 and 31 December (3 days of leave) gives ten days off, from Saturday 25 December 2027 to Monday 3 January 2028.
- May: the Early May and Spring bank holidays are four weeks apart (3 May and 31 May), so each makes a three-day weekend.
